Where are you from?

Jamaica

How long have you been making music?

About 8 years

How many songs /albums have you released to date?

Few singles, and am releasing debut EP on June 24th, 2016

Can you tell us about your latest release and the background and inspirations behind it?

“There is definitely a thin line between Love and Lust and this collection of songs really try to straddle the line. The results are really enamoring and exciting !!! These songs really embody my soul and state of mind at this time in my life.” K’Coneil

How have you ended up in the music industry?

Coming from a musical family, music was embedded in his DNA, but not to be stereotyped, education played a major importance in the young artist life. At the age of 16 he migrated to the United States on a full soccer scholarship where he attained his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. But there was no denying his musical calling, and while in college, K’Coneil joined up with a group which went on to win a singing contest at the prestigious Madison Square Garden.

After the group was dissolved, K’Coneil continued to hone his musical craft by writing and voicing for notable producers.

What do you think of the music industry in 2016?

The music industry with the advances in technology has really made the industry such a global store front. The access and reach afforded by the web and Mobil devices have revolutionized the way people receive and enjoy music. For the independent artist it’s an exciting time. With a creative marketing strategy and a strong team, anyone can be competitive. It’s interesting to note that the feedback on your music is so instantaneous versus the older models.

Who do you think the most influential artist?

Bob Marley and Michael Jackson, but Naturally the most influential artist are going to be the bigger “mainstream” pop artist; nut I think it varies by genre and the type of image you like. So if you like rap you are going to be influenced by Drake, Future or Kendrick depending on the style you like. If your into pop then you Beiber will probably be that guy to influence the younger kids; when we say dancehall the one man influencing the music for the longest is Kartel a di baddest ting dat hands down!

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?

To date I have not done any artist collabs only producer collabs the biggest name being the big man Seanizzle; but I hope that will change eventually.

How do you think you differ from other artists?

There are so many talented and dope artists out there and its hard to say how I differ from them without really knowing them; but what I do know is that I put my everything in my craft and as an artist I understand that its not just about music but appearance is key as well so I put effort not just into my music but also my brand. I have a business background so even though I am doing music for the love of it I also understand that it’s a business and I need to make my product the best product possible so I can reach the biggest audience possible to be able to make a living to feed my family. I don’t think most artist understand that aspect of the music industry.

Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?

This is a long list! But my absolute favourite artist that I think is the dopest and coolest of them all is the Big Hommie Jay Z so he would be number one on my list; then Michaela Jackson would have been great to work with; Prince who I think is one of the most unique and creative artist would have been dope; would have been nice to write music and record with the Legend Bob Marley in a very smoky environment lol. Beenie man is my artist from day 1 and I mos def want to collab with. A few more would be Usher; Taylor Swift; Drake and Kanye.

What was the first album you bought?

Wow that’s a hard one to remember; but I think its either Brian McKnight back at one or a DJ clue mix tape with Jay Z and Mia’s Best of me hit. I might be wrong but those are the two albums that come to mind as my first purchase.

What’s your favourite song at the moment?

Usually when I am not creating I listen a lot of music and I will get stuck on a song but for the past few months I have been writing and making my own music so I haven’t been so keen to the music out; but I know my last favourite song that I was stuck on was Calvin Harris and Disciples How deep is your love; but I would have to say my favourite song at the moment is my nest single “feel so right” produced by DJ Calli B

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your draw?

This is a tough one very very hard lol; because I listen to music based on my mood so I don’t know if there is one Album that can set the right mood for me at any given time; but the Album coming to mind would be my Whitney Houston greatest hits; I’m sorry but I had a huge crush on Whitney as a kid and she can sing to me all day long!

What is your favourite saying?

You would probably have to ask my friends that as they could tell you what I say all the time lol; but I don’t think I have a favourite saying I just say whatever comes to mind but I do know I love saying “that ish is dope” so maybe that’s it lol

What other hobbies or interests do you have?

Well my favourite hobby is playing soccer; At one point I wanted to be a professional soccer player but halfway through college I changed my mind and focused on music and business so that’s number one. Outside of that I like to just chill and listen to music if I am not making my own; I am always on the go so when I do get a chance to sit and take a breather I indulge in solitude and music!

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

Currently no tats or piercings but everyone says when mi buss that will change lol so we will see.

Tell us more about your upcoming project or this new project?

My EP LOVE/LUST is a collection of 7 songs that seeks to straddle the thin line between those two complex emotions. As individuals, we often confuse the two, sometimes with disastrous results. So I try, to take the audience through what I think is going inside our heads and bodies as we experience the different stages of these transitions. The meeting stage when you’re heart struck, through to the endorphin of the physical contact and the pleasures that come with that. Then the big realization after the interaction/intercourse of the true feelings involved… Is it love or is this Lust? That’s the big “shibang” and it’s that realization that determines whether or not it’s a tragedy or a triumph

What’s in the pipeline after this project?

Well I am still in studio recording as I am already thinking about an album so I just want to record as many songs as possible so the pool to choose from is huge when the time comes; I am also looking forward going on tour in the near future; nothing yet booked but I am really looking forward to my first one!

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making great, fresh music.

Thanks Dope!!
