Interview with ‘Sasha Anne’

ArtistRack catches up with the talented Sasha Anne for this exclusive interview

Where are you from?

New York but I live in LA now and am bi-coastal too

How long have you been making music?

I have been writing since I was 12 but just for fun. I’ve always had a passion for singing ever since I first watched Hannah Montana on Disney Channel and then my first concert was Miley Cyrus in 2009 when I was 9. She definitely inspired me to pursue my dream and continue to sing. I wrote lyrics on napkins in middle school. When I was 20, in the middle of Covid/treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer, I collaborated with Trey Vittetoe on at least 5 songs. He has written for Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, etc. And I recorded from my home. I am hoping to release at least one of them in the future.

How many songs /albums have you released to date?

I have released 2 cover songs. My first one was a remake of the #1 Smash Hit “Catch Me, I’m Falling” by Pretty Poison. The second is called “This is Your Night” by Amber. My new single, first original, just dropped today called “Scars” on all streaming platforms.

Can you tell us about your latest release and the background and inspirations behind it?

My latest release, “Scars”, is for anyone who has had a battle and overcame it like me. I had a battle and became stronger than ever. Nothing stopped me. It’s also a mental health message.

How did you first get into music, and what inspired you to pursue a career in it?

I was working with Suzanne Delaurentiis, a movie producer from LA. She introduced me to Jade Starling and Whey Cooler from the group Pretty Poison. They brought me to their studio in New Jersey and produced my cover version of their #1 Smash Hit “Catch Me, I’m Falling “. Suzanne ended up producing the music video and that eventually lead to my signing with Tazmania Records.

What do you think of the present music industry?

It’s very competitive, especially for young independent artists. I’m hopeful that eventually it will open up more opportunities for new and upcoming artists

Who are some of your biggest musical influences and how have they impacted your music?

For me the most influential artist is Miley Cyrus. I’ve been following her since Hannah Montana and have watched her turn into the superstar she is today.

What have been some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced as a musician and how have you overcome them?

I get impatient. Things take time and don’t just happen overnight. Sometimes I need to remember that. I like to get things done when I want them to be done but my mentor, Jade Starling, tells me to take a breather and it will happen I just need to be patient.

How has your music evolved over the course of your career, and where do you see it going in the future?

I have 2 dance cover songs out and 1 original pop/ballad out already. For my originals, I don’t think my taste has evolved. I’ve always loved 2000s pop/rock. As for my thoughts, I’ve gone through a lot and I surprise myself sometimes when talking it out with my songwriters. Sometimes big words come out of my mouth that I’ve never said before. I think I’m maturing and definitely wanting to put more songs out there from my heart. But I do still have fun clubby songs that will hopefully be out eventually.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?

No singers as of yet, but for songwriters, I have worked with Trey Vittetoe, Krysta Youngs, Julia Ross, GG Ramirez and Bekah Novi.

Can you describe your creative process and what goes into making a song or album?

I usually have a story or situation in my head that I remember. It’s always from past experiences. I just talk it out with the songwriters and GG Ramirez and Bekah Novi put my thoughts and words to lyrics. They’re amazing!! I am given a backing track for them to write to. When I am given the backing track, the vibe or feeling usually just comes to me and I think of something I went through.

Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?

I would loved to have been able to collab with Whitney Houston. That would be iconic! Love her song, “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, and her Medley is just astonishing. A current dream collaboration would be Ariana Grande, my mentor/co-producer, Jade Starling, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift.

What was the first album you bought?

I think my mom bought me the Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana and High School Musical cd at the same time and I played them all on repeat on my Sony CD player in 2006 when I was 6.

What’s your favorite song at the moment?

“Never let anyone dull your sparkle”

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your draw?

I don’t have a physical album collection like I used to when I was 6. All the songs are on my Apple Music. But, if I did still have the collection, I would leave my Hannah Montana album in my drawer.

What is your favourite saying?

“Never let anyone dull your sparkle”

What other hobbies or interests do you have?

I have a YouTube channel where I post makeup looks and transformations. I also have a talk show series on my channel called “The Vibe with Sasha Anne” where I talk about the latest trends in fashion, beauty and entertainment. I just finished filming my Margot Robbie Barbie makeup transformation which will be going up asap. I’m going to be filming an updated Swan makeup look, since the Black swan makeup from 4 years ago, is still being talked about so I figured it was time to do a Pink swan makeup!! I’m then going to be doing a Princess Peach makeup transformation for the new Super Mario Bros movie! Stay tuned for my Met Gala fashion review/faves! I’m also a professional makeup artist and I am taking acting classes and dance classes.

Tell us more about your upcoming project or this new project?

This single has been in the works for months, tweaking, rewording the lyrics, and the editing. Same with the music video which will be released in May. I had to reshoot a scene a couple times because I’m a perfectionist and I don’t want to release anything that isn’t perfect. I have to say that now, it’s perfect and I’m so excited for everyone to see the video!! I also hope everyone loves the song which was released today!! And I have to thank my amazing team for all their hard work. They did a fantastic job. My label, Tazmania records, mentor/co-producer/voice coach, Jade Starling, for working on my voice each week to get it in perfect shape for recording, my awesome songwriters, Bekah Novi and GG Ramirez for writing to my concept, Dark Intensity, StoneBridge, Klubjumpers, Tom Colantonio for making an awesome remix, and Whey Cooler for the editing.

What’s in the pipeline after this project?

Working on releasing my other originals I’ve had in the past that’s done and ready to be revised to be released and working with Award-Winning singer/songwriter, Jade Starling on new material for my upcoming album.
