Jack Rootes – Never Was an Us (Review)

Check out ArtistRack’s Review of Jack Rootes new release: Never Was an Us

January 2021 – Most hip-hop musicians tend to write lyrics that are often limited to a set of the usual cliches of the genre: money, hustling, the club to power and fame, and so on.

However, there has been a recent shift in the genre, with many more rappers willing to write lyrics that are a bit more personal, and even emotional, with a focus on relationships and more personal topics.

This seems to be the case for “Never Was an Us,” a brand new studio single by budding rap artist Jack Rootes. This one is going to be exactly what you are looking for if you are a fan of artists such as Anderson.Paak, as well as Mac Miller, Lupe Fiasco or Kendrick Lamar, only to mention a few.

Jack Rootes is an artist to watch, and if this track is any indication, it is definitely going to be a very prolific and successful year for this rapper on the rise. The sound of the song is lush and incredibly well-crafted in terms of production. What’s amazing about it is that it seamlessly blurs the lines between different styles, layering different instruments and keeping the groove smooth and organic from the moment you hit the play button.
