Two Truths – Chasing

April 13, 2022 – Two Truths has just released “Chasing”, the 2nd single off of their upcoming indiefolk EP, Electric Campfire.

This is the group’s first release since recently making the move to Los Angeles from Rochester, NY. The single release will also feature an incredible animated music video created by Gabe and Miguel Mirasol.

“Chasing” casts a dreamy hue with guitar droning out downcast chords shrouded in icy synth tones. Lyrically the song explores life in an always-on society:

“Try hard to understand but got no time to waste. Devil on my heels, quicken the pace. Always chasing another end. Never stop, never begin.”

The band had been stuck inside during the frozen Rochester winter and decided to go on a latenight stroll. Walking through the windy streets and snowfall they found themselves lying down, looking at the stars, and taking in the still night. They wrote the song immediately upon arriving back home.

The animation done by Gabe and Miguel Mirasol is also visually stunning and incredibly well-done. The style captures the nostalgic sense of shows Blake and Mader grew up watching in the late 90s and early 2000s. The video tells a beautiful story while delivering the perfect visual representation for the Two Truths sound.

Electric Campfire is a powerful sonic journey, and a traveling adventure along with Front-men Jonathan Blake and Garrett Mader, who brought Two Truths to LA in 2022 from the East Coast.

This folk guitar-driven EP celebrates the expansive styles of Pattengale and Mader as well as taking musical inspiration from the band’s name, Two Truths. The name derives from the Buddhist teaching that there are Two Truths – “A truth of worldly convention and the ultimate Truth.” The band resembles those principles with a unique duality between its primary songwriters, vocalists and musicians. Their sound is harmonic, often acoustic complimented by electric instruments. The melodies are always heading in different directions but each part fuses together throughout their songs.

Two Truths was originally formed by Mader and Blake along with keyboardist Max Greenberg in Rochester, NY. They assembled the band during the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic after spending years as session musicians and hired performers after graduating from the Eastman School of Music, a subset of the University of Rochester. “During that time, we asked ourselves – What do we really want to make musically?”, Mader states, “I’ve always had a deep-rooted love of folk music and artists like Nick Drake and Elliot Smith. That truly led us to the path we’re on today”. While getting to know them, lead vocalist Jonathan Blake stated, regarding the songwriting partnership between him and Mader: “In terms of our sound you can really hear the difference between Garrett’s folky guitar and the darker lyrics electronic production I contribute.” That musical duality truly exists in their songwriting style, especially in songs like “Chasing” where the folk guitar draws you in along with echoing vocals, electronic drums and synthesizers.

Two Truths released a debut single “Brushstokes” along with a music video back in Nov 2021. You can find it here.

Electric Campfire will be available digitally across all streaming platforms on May 6th 2022.
