Tapio Ylinen proudly presents his album release, ‘Left Unsaid’
With his first English album (and his third overall) LEFT UNSAID guitarist and songwriter Tapio Ylinen is joined by Liima/Efterklang drummer Tatu Rönkkö and bassist Miikkael Anttila (best know for his work with multi-platinum selling singer Jenni Vartiainen). Together the prog rock trio combines sounds inspired by early 80’s The Police and 70’s rock giants such as Pink Floyd and Dire Straits.
Success can sometimes come in the way of a single project. The recording of the album that eventually became Left Unsaid was begun in 2008. The sessions were in an advanced stage when suddenly Anttila was booked for months ahead because of the success of singer Jenni Vartiainen’s debut album. He would remain on the road with Vartiainen for several years to come. Meanwhile drummer Rönkkö found success first with the experimental pop-jazz group Elifantree and later moving to Berlin and touring the world with Efterklang and Liima.
Meanwhile songwriter Ylinen found success by playing with one of the finest tribute groups in Northern Europe when he joined PULSE – The Finnish Tribute to Pink Floyd.
Finally, after almost ten years in hiatus, Ylinen found the time to finish the project that was started so many years ago and results are worth the wait. It has been a long road home for this album, but it may be fair to say that there’s not much music like this made at the moment. It’s simultaneously retro and fresh, easily accessible but also offers something for the more demanding listener. It’s melodic guitar music but with solid rhythms provided by an expert drum & bass pair. And to think that it was all almost left unsaid…
