Shaelyn Avalon – Narcissist

“Narcissist” is Shaelyn’s first release after her debut EP “Wonderland”.
Like her previous work, she fuses her love for a good metaphor with elements of mystery. This song, however, takes a more biting approach than her previous singles “Seventeen” and “Heartstrings” and leaves no question as to who the song is about. Right out of the gate she references her own experience with Stolkholm Syndrom, when the abused party falls in love with their abuser. PTSD, lack of trust, and nightmares, coupled with insomnia typically ensue long after breaking free from abuse. As the track progresses, Avalon speaks of “putting her crown back on”, taking back her own sense of self after having it “shattered” by the one she loved most. It’s definitely a darker theme than her usual but she pulls it off well, all while inviting the listener in with a haunting melody.
