ArtistRack brings to you ‘Closer’ by Linger
Usually, when people talk about the walls getting closer, it’s meant in a negative, claustrophobic sense. We wanted to write a song that put the expression in a slightly different context.
In this age, where society pushes the narrative that the more options we have, the better off we are, we deal with extreme levels of stimuli every single day, endless vistas of options, choices we feel like we have to make, about everything. What takeout food we want, what streaming service we want to watch or listen to, the endless avalanche of ads, opinions and comments on social media. What we have been told to view as freedom of choice can actually become a prison of forced choices.
We would probably all of us benefit from narrowing our scope from time to time. Give ourselves some time to breathe, reflect, and just be. If every single action or event in our daily life comes with endless choices, we become stressed out, maybe even panicked. Freedom of choice is a good thing, as long as it actually makes us free. For many of us, this development is seriously unhealthy.
Put away that smartphone for at least one night. Stay off social media for a week. Read a book. Slowly. Sit in silence. Listen to your body and your mind. Let the walls come closer, in a good way. Let the world wait. It will still be here when you are ready. Be gentle and considerate with yourself. That’s the message of ’Closer’, when you are ready to listen.
