Jenn DeSantis – Someone Else

Jenn DeSantis – Someone Else:

Hi there,

I am Jenn DeSantis. I’m a 22 year old pianist, songwriter, producer and singer. At 2 years old, I would play the piano learning just by ear, singing at age 6, and writing my own songs starting at age 10.

A little about me:
In middle school, I felt the need to make music. I wished for harmonies with my own voice and my songs to be recorded in stone. My dad gave me a 4 track recorder that I would produce songs on for hours after school. He knew I should have an 8 track recorder pretty soon. I wished to record on more tracks. I sold my first 11 track album from that 8 track recorder to fundraise for the Child Advocacy Center raising about 500 dollars. In high school, I sold my second CD to fundraise for Show Hope, an orphanage in China.

More accomplishments starting happening in college at SUNY Oneonta. I majored in Music Industry with a minor in Audio Production. I had been PR, Vice President, and President of the Songwriting Club at SUNY Oneonta. During all four years, I’ve organized multiple open mics on and off campus, was in a rock, experimental, and jam band, learned how to scratch in my Beat production class and etc. I was also a pianist for Voices of Serenity, the SUNY Oneonta gospel choir, hosted my own open mic every Thursday at a local college bar, and was a “go to” person for keys, vocals, and lyric advice. My professors have stated “your songwriting skills are so advanced for your age.” One well-known composer from Denmark, Mark Wind, said to me, “You have a unique blend of different genres that work so incredibly well, I could pick you out of thousands of artists and that is a wonderful accomplishment.” As a sophomore and junior, she interned at SubCat Studios, a national known music studio in the city of Syracuse. “It was such an amazing experience; being on my own and all. I learned so much there. I learned I should pursue my career even further. During the summer of junior year, I became a venue manager at Funk N Waffles in Syracuse.

Lastly, I finished her third album, “Surreality” with recording engineer Fred Rigollaud while shooting a music video for my single “Someone Else.” “Someone Else” is out on all streaming sites.

This song has a contemporary rock feel mixed with classical elements due to my upbringing listening to Elton John and Queen. My vocals are powerful. People say it sounds like Evanescence, Sara Bareilles, and P!nk meets The Cure. It also has a strong message along with the music video. There are not enough LGBTQ+ music videos out there, especially portraying interracial couples and the challenges that come with certain cultures. Aside from having a powerful message, this is also a depiction of a true story. I was still figuring my sexuality and had doubts about my feelings for women due to traditional societal norms. My partner at the time came from a non-supportive family. In the end, we both realized we should be happy with ourselves before they started a relationship period. Be happy with yourself FIRST. It’s not simple, but it’s necessary. From this relationship, I knew I could actually fall in love with a woman and be happy. She realized to be happy too despite what her family thought. It was a sad ending, but a powerful lesson.
