James Douglas Cooper – Sammy

James Douglas Cooper PRESENTS: Sammy

On the 2021 ‘Second Season (Expanded Edition)’ reissue, James Douglas Cooper’s ‘Sammy’ is a clear standout. The cut was recorded back in 2004 in the depths of Sony Music Studios, Sydney, Australia. Cooper wrote the song loosely referring to a troubled friend. His idea was to produce the song in a classic, 1970’s style fashion. A grand piano and vocals were recorded and only the addition of a single cello part and some mild acoustic guitar augment the track. Simplicity can be powerful and in the case of ‘Sammy’, the track soars into the ether both vocally and instrumentally.
