Iva Toric PRESENTS: The Devil’s Mark
At the height of the Salem Witch Trials, the Devilβs Mark was thought to be evidence that a woman was a witch. It could have been any imperfection of her skin – a mole, a scar, a birthmark – anything but flawless skin was a death sentence. In the song Iva Toric evokes this history to cast light on the stigma that still surrounds mental health issues today. Iβve often thought of my own mental health struggles as a kind of Devilβs Mark that brands me for all eternity. This song is a plea to both myself and the world – stop focusing on our imperfections and start loving us as the whole and beautifully flawed beings we are.
