Mace Blackmon

ArtistRack catches up with Mace Blackmon for this exclusive interview and insight into his latest release ‘Sexy Nerd Girlfriend’

Jesse James Chisolm 3rd who also goes under the stage name Mace Blackmon is a music artist from Philadelphia PA. His music influences are Earth, Wind & Fire, KISS, George Clinton and Isaac Hayes. Other than Soul & Electronica, Mace Blackmon has also written Hard Rock Songs as well.

Where are you from?

I’m from Philadelpha. PA. I lived here most of my life for over 50 years.

How long have you been making music?

Ever since I was in High School for about 40 years. It all first started with a Casio Mt 35 keyboard & a Panasonic Tape Recorder, and then a Tascam Porta studio. After that I was a full-blown Music Addict. I couldn’t stop! I had to write more!

How many songs /albums have you released to date?

Oh about 5 I think, yes 5.

Can you tell us about your latest release and the background and inspirations behind it?

My latest single is called Sexy Nerd Girlfriend which is now available Worldwide at Bandcamp and Teespring. I dedicated it to my Girlfriend who is currently staying in the Czech Republic because of the War in Ukraine.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

My Spaceship Crashed landed there after my home Planet was destroyed by Gene Simmons because I told him that Ace Frehley’s Solo album was better than his. What a jerk!

What do you think of the music industry in 2022?

Don’t get me started! It’s BS. With the exception of The Weeknd & Eminem most of this…I’m going to keep it clean, crap! It’s all junk! You have Rappers who sound like they Dropped out of first grade, Pop Singers who sound like they are sleep and everything is Auto-Tune! Who is producing these Artists Elmer Fudd!? I’m sick of Auto-Tune! “I’m going to get the rabbit in my Car/ Driving with my girl trying be a star” Shut up!! They all sound like Elmer Fudd!

Who do you think the most influential artist?

I’m going to say hands down it’s Eminem. The man is almost 50 and still killing these new artists.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?

If you count being in a Band in the 90s that’s it so far.

How do you think you differ from other artists?

I write what I feel like writing. Kind of like David Bowie. I don’t like writing the same ole things musically. As for my persona, think of me as the guy you see waiting for the Bus who will tell you off for asking a stupid question like-“Do you know what time the Bus comes?” or “Do you have a light? or if the Bus Stop Sign says 53 and you ask me does the 53 stops here. That’s who I am.

Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?

Well, my late Brother, the other one is a Band from Ukraine called Okean Elzy and lastly Molly Rhythm who is based out of Philly. Also, I would of loved to have joined The Monkees.

What was the first album you bought?

That would be The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein when I was in Grade School. The reason being was I thought it came with a Comic Book, but it turned out it may have only been in the album Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome by Parliament.

What’s your favourite song at the moment?

Rising Force by Yngwie Malmsteen. I like to think of the song as a Wiccan hymn.

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your draw?

Nobody is getting DEMISE! I think it’s my best!

What is your favourite saying?

You can always judge a man by the quality of his enemies. That’s from the 7th Doctor.

What other hobbies or interests do you have?

I’m a big Pinball Addict! Especially the Bally Tables from the late 70s to early 80s! Also, I’m trying to learn Ukrainian. So far, I know Hello, how are you and baby can you please have sex with me?

Is it true that you are a Witch or a Wiccan?

Yes, I am. There’s seems to be a misconception some of us are Satanists which is not true. I’m more of a non-practicing Wiccan who mostly uses Mind Over Matter, not spells or intent. However, if it’s a grave emergency that’s only when I’ll use one.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

Hell no. Hmmm…..Looks like you can use one. Hand me that Starpie Marker.

Tell us more about your upcoming project or this new project?

My next project is the single called Roaches which will be about the war in Ukraine.

What’s in the pipeline after this project?

Hopefully next year I would like to do some collab work with my old Band Mate Joe Boylan. Also start a Band to do some shows.

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making great, fresh music.

Thank you!! Anytime!!
