Eden – Unknown (Review)

A groundbreaking hip-hop release with a different twist.

Eden is a rap artist who set out to escape the usual cliches of the genre, in favor of a more dynamic, rich and textural sound. As a result, he recently produced a new EP titled, “Eden,” which features 4 groundbreaking tracks.

The opening number, “Nuit Pale” is a perfect mood-setter, with some stunning soundscapes that really match the evocative greyscale themes of the artwork cover. The song has a compact arrangement, yet it covers a lot of ground, showcasing the artist’s versatility.

“Realite wav” is probably one of our favourites on this release. We love the intriguing rhythm and the nearly hypnotic sonic patterns of this delivery! Later, the track list goes on with “Couleurs Retro.” As the title aptly teases, this song is endowed with a lot of warmth and a truly amazing sense of old-school aesthetics, often tipping the hat off to masters like J Dilla, just to mention one.

Last, but definitely not least, the beautiful title track is yet another example of the artist’s passion and dedicated sonic craftsmanship!
