Tears on My Pillow Guy by Autorub
Autorub, based out of NY, offers up a fun listen with their new concept EP “America The Sick.”
The album is conceptual both musically and lyrically. The lyrics are a mostly humorous take on the politically charged climate of the US. The band playfully jabs at the MyPillow Guy, Mitch McConnell, and the QAnon followers, but with a skill and subtlety that could likely be appreciated from either side of the political aisle. There are a few moments that are even laugh-out-loud funny.
The musical concept bridges futuristic sounds with retro and classic influences. There’s a lot of live instrument playing such as live drums, bass and guitars, particularly on the rock songs. The vocals are done with a Vocoder, which sounds both futuristic and retro, depending on the age of the listener. There is also an RnB and an EDM track, yet all these genres work well together as they follow the lyrical concept and sound.
Influences are broad and include Beck, Weezer, Foo-Fighters, Prince, Stevie Wonder and Daft Punk to name a few. In all, “America The Sick” contains clever songwriting and well produced and performed music that takes you on a little adventure, all in the space of twelve minutes.
