Asuna presenting their new single release: Sick and Tired
The founding members grew up in the underground Poughkeepsie NY music scene as it emerged into the mainstream in the late 2000s/2010s. The members played together in local bands including Naenia, Our Only Reason, We Take The Night, I Scream Sunday, and Valatie Kills. The members also would frequent Vans Warped Tour every summer together when it existed.
In summer 2019 Robbie contacted Andrew and Kevin to jam a new project, and the first jam session took place in fall 2019. Vinny and Alex soon joined in late 2019 and Andrew came up with the band name Asuna, named after the Sword Art Online character. In early 2020 the band recorded several songs before the Covid-19 outbreak across the world took place, forcing a delay on the EP release as well as a delay on the first shows.
The first single “Atreyu vs The Nothing” was released on streaming platforms March 18th 2020. The second single “Mustafar” was released on streaming platforms May 4th 2020. The debut EP “Setting Fires” is due for a summer 2020 release.
Musical Style:
Asuna’s sound is described as new metalcore, with post-hardcore, pop punk, and djent references. They blend melodic choruses with heavy breakdowns, diverse riffs, and occasional guitar solos. Samples are occasionally used as well.
