Pinkshift Embraces the Chill: Everything You Need to Know About Their New Single “Snow”
Just when we thought the year couldn’t get any more intense, Baltimore’s premier genre-defying trio, Pinkshift, has graced us with a seasonal surprise. Dropped on December 18, 2025, their new single “Snow” arrives as a hauntingly beautiful capstone to a massive year for the band.
If you’ve been following Ashrita Kumar (they/them), Paul Vallejo (he/him), and Myron Houngbedji (he/him) through the high-octane riffs of their sophomore album Earthkeeper, “Snow” might catch you off guard—in the best way possible.
A Softer Side of Punk
Pinkshift is legendary for their “youthful rage” and “explosive energy,” but “Snow” sees the band leaning into a more ethereal, melodic sound. Released via Hopeless Records, the track trades in their signature distorted power chords for:
-
Acoustic strums that feel like a cold morning.
-
Glowing flute sonics that add a layer of mystical depth.
-
Ashrita’s haunting vocals, which prove they can command a room just as well with a whisper as they can with a roar.
The Story Behind the Lyrics: “Flies in the Sky”
In a recent Instagram post, the band shared a surprisingly intimate look into the song’s origins. Ashrita revealed that the imagery of “flies in the sky” was actually inspired by mosquitoes buzzing around their ears while trying to sleep in their grandmother’s old apartment.
“I wondered who they were and what they were trying to tell me,” Kumar shared.
This surreal, almost psychedelic approach to songwriting is a hallmark of the Earthkeeper era, where the band has found inspiration in everything from redwood trees to the quiet hum of the natural world.
Why “Snow” is the Perfect End to 2025
2025 has been a banner year for Pinkshift. Between the August release of Earthkeeper and landing on several “Best Albums of the Year” lists (including Kerrang!), the band has solidified their place as leaders of the new alternative scene.
“Snow” serves as a “seasonal gift” to fans—a moment of reflection after a year of “giving a fuck” and fighting for change. It’s a track that fits perfectly into a winter playlist, somewhere between the angst of the holidays and the quiet hope of a new year.
