What is your name?
Junior Turner

Where are you from?
Wallsend, Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom

How long have you been making music?
5 years

How many songs /albums have you released to date?
10 songs / 1 album so far

Can you tell us about your latest release and the background and inspirations behind it?
‘Different Worlds’ has my blood, sweat and tears put into it. I for the first time wrote a song whilst in the moment of what the song is about was still ongoing which is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. The song tells the tale of the mistake being made to judge a book by its cover only to then read the story of what seemed to be a fairytale but was a horror story with a very unhappy ending.

How have you ended up in the music industry?
I won a competition to release a song for BBC Children in Need 2010 after appearing on a local radio show. From there I used the time and opportunity to record some demos I had written to hand out to people I met during this time and luckily for me further opportunities arose and I am still her 5 years later

What do you think of the music industry in 2014?
In terms of the UK it is so hard to break the mould and become a mainstream artist with your radio on constant rotation on main FM stations as major record labels have them tied up. Besides that you have reality tv talent shows which from past winners seem to be short lived for five minutes of fame and does more damage than good. We also have the issue of piracy too where people now have access to websites where they can convert YouTube videos into mp3’s. So nowadays it is becoming harder and harder for the independent artist. Gone are the days of your buddy holly’s etc recording, pressing vinyl records and dropping into their local station and having it aired there and then. Money speaks volumes before talent

Who do you think the most influential artist?
I have many influences from luther vandross, marvin gaye, stevie wonder, ray charles, michael bolton ….. then modern day currently I am digging Sam Smith and Ed Sheerhans latest album so I have a versatile ear it would seem even opera is something I can listen to with ease and enjoy

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?
I have had the pleasure of working with many top producers and engineers and such in several studios around the UK. In terms of people appearing on my recordings then it would have to be the amazing guitarist that is Neil Taylor who was with Robbie Williams for several years as well as ‘Tears for Fears’ and many other top names he has shared a stage with too. It was an honour. Also my good friend and up and coming Indie artist Jess Wood who is from my hometown, the music world better be ready for her appearance as her talent is endless !!!

Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?
John Lennon without question !!!

What was the first album you bought?
Simply Red, Fairground
What’s your favourite song at the moment?
Ed Sheeran – Thinking out loud

Who is the most influential artist now, and 10 years ago?
Sam Smith and 10 years ago Luther Vandross

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your draw?
Good question ha ha ……. it would probably be David Gray and White Ladder

How do you think you differ from other artists?
I write from the heart always look for a hook for people to remember, along with writing it in a such a way people can relate to the song or time and also leave it impartial so it can relate to him and her alike

What is your favourite saying?
‘Melodies make feelings’

What other hobbies or interests do you have?
Socialising, football, movies

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
My father is ‘the legend’ of tattooing here in the UK he has 52 years experience so yes I have 10 tattoos and somehow managed a ear piercing which rarely gets used …. think it was a younger boyband thing or an alien abduction led to that happening ha ha

Tell us more about your upcoming project or this new project?
‘Different worlds’ promotion is at an early stage where we are slowly building the hype for it and hopefully all going according to plan it will peak and maximise around the release date so that people can actually go out and get their hand on the track there and then. All being well hopefully this track will be the one to take me to the next step of my career

What’s in the pipeline after this project?
We are currently looking at a project to release a christmas 2014 single and again this takes a lot of planning in order to have the track in the pot of songs radio stations choose to play come the time the festive season is upon us. So at the moment we have that and I am also around 3 tracks away from the 2nd album being completed which should be released March 2015
