Interview with ‘Té Dee’

22 year old Bulgarian-born and London-based vocalist Té Dee has a hypnotic voice and stage presence to die for. Independent music company Bestoflondonmusic is showing this to the world with the release of her first single “Psycho” sure to be a hit. She came to the UK to follow her passion and have since worked hard to get closer to the pop artist image I want to have. My influences come from R&B, Pop and Dance music but I want to stay adventurous, even adding a Caribbean flavour to some of my songs.

Where are you from?

West London

How long have you been making music?

16 Years

How many songs /albums have you released to date?

I have 1 Full world wide single release

Can you tell us about your latest release and the background and inspirations behind it?

My latest release, is called ” Psycho” the song is mainly about a guy who everyone thinks is Mad/Psycho, but I see a different side to him. There’s a message in that for everyone.

How have you ended up in the music industry?

I’ve been singing since I was very young and I’ve always dreamt of becoming an artist. I moved to London to pursue a career in music and I am growing and getting where I want to be step by step. I also met my manager Kevin here and he played a major role in kicking off my journey as Té Dee.

What do you think of the music industry in 2018?

I think it’s very different from what it used to be but we have to adapt. People literally have access to all the music in the world at their fingertips and thanks to social media can be part of the daily life of the artists they like. The good thing is that it’s easier than ever to share your music with the public and reach people across the globe with your message. The downside is that it’s hard to stand out and keep the attention of listeners because there is so much content out there. For that reason I think management has become as important as the art itself.

Who do you think the most influential artist?

There are many names that cross my mind but if we are talking about great influence, I would mention two names – Michael Jackson and Beyonce. A weird combination but let me explain. Michael sadly left this world too soon but I’m hearing his influence in more and more current songs from major and new artists. His work was so unique and popular at the same time that I believe it will continue to inspire and affect the music scene for a long time. And then I just can’t disregard Beyonce and her artistry. I admire the strong woman she is and love the unpredictability and freedom about her music. She is without doubt an excellent performer but I think people like her so much because of her creative fearlessness and powerful messages. She’d surprise even her truest fans with each album she drops and I believe this is why she has always been so successful and influential. She has done great things for female empowerment and I think it’s great that so many young women (especially singers) are striving to be as hardworking, independent and bold as her.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?

I’ve only collaborated with two rappers for now but the songs are yet to be released so I can’t say much.

How do you think you differ from other artists?

I believe that every single person has his own unique light within. As long as I am myself and do what feels right, I am letting this unique light shine through and show my individuality in the best way possible. Oh, and on a less psychological note I have to say that I am quite brave when it comes to mixing different styles. I do pop music but some of my songs have dance, and even Caribbean influences. Can’t wait for you guys to hear the moods of my upcoming tracks.

Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?

Oh, they are so many.. But I’ll have to pick Justin Timberlake. He is a dream.

What was the first album you bought?

I will be very honest.. I don’t remember. I grew up listening to so many different genres and artists. My parents had tons of CDs and I remember we’d go from rock to classic to Greek music all in the same hour. I loved road trips and buying CDs from gas stations so I am pretty sure the ‘first album’ I bought was rather a random one.

What’s your favourite song at the moment?

‘God is a woman’ by Ariana Grande. I love everything about it- the strong message, the way she sang it and the range of emotions it makes me feel.

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your draw?

I think it would be ‘Future Sex/Love Sounds’ by Justin Timberlake. I won’t ever get tired of listening to those songs.

What is your favourite saying?

There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing and be nothing.’

What other hobbies or interests do you have?

I love dancing and I’m glad it goes hand in hand with a music career. I’m also very adventurous so I love traveling and exploring new places, cultures and cuisines.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

I only have my ears pierced. I know I’ll get a tattoo some day but I guess the right moment hasn’t come yet.
