The name DL$ is an acronym for Daniel Lebo Shayi and has become synonymous with township hip-hop from Limpopo in the recent years together with poignant lyrics and sophisticated urban style. But what’s probably more celebrated than this teen’s musical gift is his talent at the early age of 12. This upcoming township hip-hop artist is indeed a gift to the south African music industry.

Namakgale Primary School and then proceeded to Vuxeni Secondary School, he has always
been an A+ scholar. He is currently in grade ten (10) and successfully juggles a meteoric music rise with his academic at ease, as if it is natural to be so talented and be academically excellent simultaneously.

DL$ has always been surrounded by music as his uncle is in the music business together with his cousin brother, who serves as his road manager, works together with their uncle to host events and run an entertainment business.

He showed his first of talent at ten(10) years old by rapping flows of songs with his own lyrics to his uncle, whenever his uncle come home with artists. He then proceeded to write his songs and performed to his peers at school. His cousin brother discovered the talents and brought to his uncle’s attention who then booked them a local studio to record demos.

The artists DL$ was born, he recorded his first songs with producer Gunna aka Noxlen and they went on to produce an Amapiano mixtape with a group called 015. DL$ started accessing his uncle’s recordings and writing music and re-recording his songs in English. It sounded okay until he started infusing vernacular into his music and then everyone was convinced that we have a superstar in the making.
