House On Solid Rock - Built Upon The Sand (Review)

Check out this Review of the latest release ‘Built Upon The Sand’ by band House on Solid Rock

House on Solid Rock is an alternative rock band with a groundbreaking and edgy sound. Their music will certainly please fans of artists like punk, grunge and indie rock, making for a very special combination of energy and melody.

Recently, the band set out to release a new project tiled “Built Upon The Sand.” This brand new wok is actually an EP, featuring 5 original songs. Opening number “You, Not I (What I Want)” has a melodic, yet gritty approach, and it almost makes me think of bands such as Cloud Nothings, Dinosaur Jr. or Car Seat Headrest, only to mention but a few. The guitar tones are abrasive, yet warm and organic, making for a really unique feel. The following track, “Revivify,” follows along the same line, yet it has a more melodic and somewhat catchy approach. If you are a fan of artists the likes of Weezer or Superchunk, you might definitely enjoy this one! The third song on the EP is titled “Not Alone,” and it definitely gives of a slightly different vibe.

This is the band’s shortest track (at least on this release) and it combines personal lyrics with a very upfront, organic sound and a slightly vintage feel, tipping the hat off to artists such as The Beatles or The Kinks. The closing duo,  “The Gift (Of Your Mercy)” and “United (We Are One” is absolutely remarkable, because these two tracks are quite different from one another, yet they maintain a cohesive and direct approach.
