The Talking Tears - Sine Nomine (Review)

Music Review for the brand new studio release: Sine Nomine by The Talking Tears

June 2020 – Sine Nomine, “Without a Name” is the ironic title of The Talking Tears’ brand new studio album release. The record features 10 songs, and what makes the track list visually stand out is that every song titled actually has one single word. Concise, to the point, yet so emotionally diverse, perfectly matching the evocative greyscale album cover, not to mention the band’s distinctive sonic landscapes.

The opening track “Animus” gives the audience a perfect introduction, with some textural indie pop soundscapes and soothing vocals, reminiscent of artists as diverse as Francis Moon, as well as M83. The track “Faded” is a particular favorite of mine, given its darker textures and unique vocal approach, which almost borders with spoken words. There is a unique blend of theatricality to this song, giving the album a different twist. The song “Believe” is another favorite of mine, combining deep piano chords with Marimba-like sounds and many beautiful layers of vocal harmonies.
