When Joshua was gravely ill in hospital from liver failure and alcoholic hepatitis, he was visited by an old friend; the classical composer Richard K Montgomery. Though friends for years they had not collaborated. But free of the ravages of addiction and with Richard’s encouragement and arrangements Joshua retrained his post-endoscopy voice and sings as if for the first time that he is the leading man in the opera of his own life.

A life this album traces. From tentative steps, romantic disasters, new innocence, new love, a moral shift and rebirth into the leading man of “The Show” and culminating in an 8.5 minute prayer against apathy, “While I Pretend”. It took 4 years.
