Music Review for the new release, ‘Glam’ by The Talking Tears

The Talking Tears are taking back 2020 with their new album “Glam”.

The Talking Tears’ new album “Glam” is an 11-track sensory journey filled with 80’s synth, expressive vocals, and explorative songwriting. This brand new release is resplendent with a cascading soundscape and lush vocal melodies.

The first two tracks, “Glam” and Blue” have a soft-energy that fully relaxes the listener into the album. “Glue” takes the record to a deeper and darker world. The distorted vocals, fat bass, and heavy synth-sound are reminiscent of The Doors’ “The End”, with a modern electronic spin.

One of the highlights of this album is “Alright”, this number has a more rock-edge that evokes the grungy feel of bands such as Nirvana. “Yeah” is also another standout on the release, with a driving-rock momentum that has a similar feel to Radiohead’s “Ful Stop”, yet with The Talking Tears’ signature songwriting style. Just these songs alone showcase the eclectic nature of the record.

The instrumental track, “Grey”, finishes the album off perfectly with a massive synth swell and atmospheric textures that leave you wanting more.

When it comes to The Talking Tears, imagine the vocal range of David Bowie and Julian Casablancas, with the multi-layered textures of shoegaze and dream-pop. If you enjoy the likes of Beach House, Alvvays, and Mac Demarco, then you will definitely love this new album.
