Interview with Otto Orlandi

Introducing the new single ‘Fever, as Otto Orlandi Feat. RAYNE & Karmello deliver a sure-fire player – forthcoming on Sony Music / O Music Recordings.

Otto Orlandi is an artist that needs little introduction, as the Italian producer & DJ who’s been responsible for a multitude of club & radio hits in recent times, returns. Born & raised in Italy, Otto’s musical journey kick started with him securing a master in sound design & since then, has gone onto write & produce a number of standout singles – including ‘Don’t Miss You’ which featured Melanie Fontana, a record that amassed a mighty 2.6 million streams on Spotify & also held a Top 10 (peaking at No7) position on iTunes Italy, for an impressive fifty five consecutive days.

In addition to working as a ghost producer for many leading global recording artists, Otto Orlandi has also signed a deal with the revered Spinnin’ Records publishing house MusicAllStars, as well as clocking up releases on Be Yourself Music, Blanco Y Negro, Arcadia Records, Armada & his own O Music Recordings label.

Collaborating with Otto on ‘Fever’ is Ron Geffen aka RAYNE, a multi-talented producer & artist hailing from New York. Starting out more rock genre focused, RAYNE’s personal journey began with him playing guitar in a band called The All Ways – seeing him go onto perform on the hit TV show America’s Got Talent & in turn, making it all the way to the quarter finals & sharing the stage with acts such as Ed Sheeran, Cher Lloyd, Bridgit Mendler & Olly Murs. Today he mainly produces & writes pop music, as well as directing his own music videos & his collaboration with Otto Orlandi & Karmello on ‘Fever’ is a testament to his production prowess.

The final part of the ‘Fever’ winning trio is Kris Carmello aka Karmello, an American singer & songwriter that delivers a truly sublime vocal performance. Karmello established himself as co-founder & lead singer in the band Wild Planes, which he formed with the revered drummer, Andre Jevnik. Starting his musical career at a young age & in part, to break away from adverse childhood experiences, Kris has been performing & writing since his teenage years, right through to today.

Signed to the major label Sony Music, the collaboration of Otto Orlandi, RAYNE & Karmello has resulted in a record that has all the hallmarks of a sure-fire player & future hit in the making, as they prepare to kick start global promotion for ‘Fever’ & a multitude of dancefloor & radio airwave love in the weeks ahead.

Otto, Welcome to Artist Rack! How’s it going?

Hello guys! It is such an honor to be here with Artist Rack. I’ve been doing really well latterly thanks for asking. I just released a new single called “Fever” in collaboration with Rayne and Kris Carmello. The song has been climbing the charts in the past few weeks, so I can’t really complain.

With a steady stream of previous hits, how do you feel your new single ‘Fever’ follows on?

I have been extremely positive about the release of Fever. Throughout my career, track after track, I always tried to improve myself. With this record, I wanted to put my skills to test and try experimenting new sounds and ideas. I like the idea of growing as an artist and I had that as my main focus during the production of this track.

What can you tell us was your inspiration behind ‘Fever’?

With Fever I wanted to explore new dimensions of electronic music and how that could influence my sound. I personally focus on pop and mainstream EDM however, I wanted to experience more with jazz and funk sounds. Calvin Harris’ most recent release, Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1, and the sound of Jamiroquai were probably the biggest source of inspiration for the production of Fever.

How would you describe your sound?

Music has always been my greatest passion from as far back as I can remember. To me music is a powerful media to unite people and make them feel happy and appreciated. That is the picture I have in mind every time I step foot in the studio. You could say I am all about the “feel good” vibes.

How did your collaboration with RAYNE & Karmello come about?

I met Rayne & Karmello at the Promo Only music conference in Atlantic city in July of 2017. After we talked for a little bit it just clicked for us that we needed to collaborate on a track. Sometimes you just have the feeling that a certain person is on your same frequency when it comes to music or art, and that’s exactly how I felt. Few months later we started working together and came up with the production of Fever.

We understand you’re originally from Italy, but currently reside in Las Vegas. What was music like growing up in Italy & how do the two locations compare in terms of markets?

I decided to move to Las Vegas about three years ago after I established some new friendships and business partnerships there. I moved here to work as a ghost producer under Warner Music, Sony Music and Universal Music. As far as market goes, there is no comparison between the US and Italy. The American market is far more developed and competitive, and I love to be in such an environment. I do think that there are a lot of passionate artists in Italy and that its market will experience drastic growth in the next few years.

What are your highlights of the year so far?

I think the highlight of this year so far has been “Don’t Miss You”, my collaboration with Many Few and Melanie Fontana, reaching 2.6 million streams on Spotify. The track spent 55 weeks in the iTunes top 100 Italian chart and peaked at #7 in the top ten. Don’t Miss You should be certified gold soon, and I am excited about that as well. Also, the O Music Recordings YouTube channel collected over a million views. It is great to see that my music is receiving great feedback from the fans and I am ready to see what the future has in store.

Any remixes on the agenda for ‘Fever’?

We have a few remixes in program coming out soon. But I don’t want to reveal too much about it, I like to create as much suspense as possible before every release.

What advice can you give to aspiring producers, from your own experience?

The best advice I can give are probably: work as hard as you can and keep an open mind! Being an artist is a challenging career path, so do not be scared of trying new ideas or take on new opportunities and always give 120% every day.

Any touring plans for 2018?

As of now I am mainly focusing on music production, so I have not planned tour dates yet. I occasionally perform in California at the House of Blues in Anaheim but for an actual tour you will have to wait a little longer. Right now, my priority is to perfect my craft and develop fully as a well-rounded music producer.
