The Hu “The Great Chinggis Khan”

The Hu presents the Official Music Video for “The Great Chinggis Khan”

Based out of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, The Hu has established their presence internationally with their self-claimed genre of Hunna Rock, based off the Mongolian word “hu” which stands for human. The fuse of modern heavy metal with traditional Mongolian throat singing and nomadic warrior spirit has garnered The Hu over 18 million views on their first two video releases, “Yuve Yuve Yu” and “Wolf Totem.”

Though their music is speckled with modern rock, it incorporates traditional Mongolian instruments such as the Monn Khuur (horsehead fiddle) and the Tovshurr (Mongolian guitar). Each band member has earned a bachelor’s degree or higher in music. The Hu spent seven years perfecting their debut album Gereg set to release September 13th. The title Gereg is based on the diplomatic passport used during the time of Genghis Khan.

As powerful and harsh as “The Great Chinggis Khaan” sounds, the message is sincere and sweet, “Love and cherish your elders, and be respectful and cherish this nature, this world.” The Hu uses their music to preserve their culture as well, hoping to pass it down the way it was passed down to them. With fierce stares and cultural attire, The Hu plays amongst the furious elements. The video wants to portray the Mongolian perspective of Chinggis Khaan, an inventor and founding father of the country rather than the public view of him as a warrior and conqueror. The Hu stays committed to their idol and honored him by traveling to Burkhan Khalduun in negative 30-degree weather, the birthplace of Chinggis Khan, to film the video.
