Bio

Although Te’a Milan may be relatively new to the music scene, the indie artist and powerhouse is no stranger to music. Milan grew up listening to gospel and singing in the church choir, often alongside her mother. Growing up in a small town, she was also exposed to country and pop artists; however, she always had a thirst for soul-stirring music. Her biggest influences have been artists such as Patti LaBelle, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, and Anita Baker. Like most of these artists, Milan has a soulful and smooth vibe to her sound. Whether she is belting out big notes or singing soft, airy riffs, she has a unique sound reflective of her experiences.

Like most artists, the Atlanta native had aspirations of becoming a successful singer and moving to Hollywood; yet, her life took a different turn. After graduating from college, Milan created a successful life in the public sector helping at-risk youth. As meaningful and rewarding as she found her work, she realized that passion for music was still burning inside of her. A few years later, a family friend asked her to sing the hook on his song, and instantly she was hooked. Soon Milan decided that she needed to pursue her music as vigorously as she did her other career. “I realized that music was not going away. It’s all I think about. I sing from the time I wake up in the morning until I go to sleep at night. I even dream about it,” she reveals.

The singer and songwriter realizes she may be a little late to the party, but maintains she is grateful for the path that her life has taken. “Everything happens according to God’s plan. Perhaps I was supposed to wait until I had a lot of joy, pain, and wisdom to share,” she affirms. Milan admits that early on she dabbled in singing and rapping, but did not take music as seriously as she should have. “I realize now that I was terrified of pursuing music because I love it so much. I think I was afraid of failure and having my heart broken. It was easier to treat it as a hobby rather than putting myself out there,” she confesses. Her advice to others is to pursue your dreams and never give up.

Milan is currently recording original music and completing her debut EP. She recently shared the stage with Angie Stone and was featured on a single with a RBC recording artist. Her new single, “Finally Figured It Out” is an anthem for anyone, especially women, who finally discovers his or her true purpose. Just as the lyrics of her song explicitly states, Te’a Milan has finally figured out she is right where she belongs, on stage sharing her music with the world.
