Overview:The 2025 trilogy represents Paul Louis Villani’s reckoning with the past and his uncompromising embrace of the future. Comprising three albums—2025 1.0, 2025 The Internationals, and 2025 2.0—this monumental release stands as a testament to his unrelenting need to create, even as he distances himself from the human chaos that once defined his musical career. Spanning up to 50 works, the trilogy divides into three distinct identities while maintaining cohesion as a singular artistic statement.

Background:In mid-2021, Villani’s musical journey underwent a profound shift. The band dynamic that had shaped his creativity for decades dissolved, leaving a hollow, venomous resentment for the compromises and burdens he had carried. For nearly 40 years, he had been the constant: the one with the reliable car, the one funding studio time when others came up short, the one dealing with the egos of unreliable bandmates. This grind left scars that remain raw.

When Villani finally walked away from bands and the Australian music industry, he believed his creative journey had reached its end. His disillusionment with an industry rife with nepotism and excess cemented his decision. Yet, the drive to create persisted. By 2024, he had 20 tracks ready for vocals, and the floodgates unexpectedly reopened. Despite resenting the relentless pull of creativity, which stole his sleep and demanded long hours of recording, he embraced it—this time on his own terms. There would be no live performances, no face-to-face collaboration, and no compromises.

Challenges and Resilience:Villani’s refusal to collaborate in person is not borne out of stubbornness but survival. The toxicity of past experiences pushed him to sever ties with the traditional music-making process. Nearly four decades of carrying bandmates and their baggage through every stage of creation left him embittered. “I’m fucking over it. I’ll never share a rehearsal room, stage, or studio with anyone ever again,” he states unequivocally.

Out of this frustration, a new creative process emerged—one that fueled his creativity without reopening old wounds. Texts and emails with Mauro Elias, the album’s vocalist, brought a refreshing simplicity. Mauro’s immense talent and organic approach to crafting melodies proved that music does not require the chaos of human proximity.

Looking Forward:Is this the end? Villani hopes it is, but he acknowledges the uncertainty of the future. Artificial intelligence has already played a role in the visual components of the 2025 trilogy, though it has not yet touched the music, lyrics, or vocals. He envisions a future where AI could eliminate the human messiness from music production entirely, a prospect he welcomes. If anything can convince him to continue, it is the possibility of embracing a future where creativity no longer hinges on human involvement.
