The emotional core of “remember my name” comes straight from a story MOIO’s mother told him about his own birth.

“My mom tells this story about being pregnant with me and hopping on a flight to Ireland even though I was supposed to be born the next day in Nigeria,” he shared. “It’s an ode to her and everything she left behind to give us a new life. I have a responsibility to become even a fraction of how great a person she is.”

That sense of inherited pressure carries the entire song. When he lines up lyrics like, “Take another look in the mirror. This life is like a merry-go-round better to hold on tight,” you can feel him trying to process what it means to build a life and a career that honors everything his family risked for him.

Sonically, MOIO handles the production himself here, teaming up with long-time co-writer Sam Finkelstein to push his sound past standard alternative R&B into broader indie-rock and psychedelic soul territory.
