Michael Cates introduces a new release: “New Lives”
November 2022 – Michael Cates is a multi-faceted artist with a very kaleidoscopic background.
Not only is he a saxophonist and record producer with over 3 decades of experience; he is also an actor who has appeared on major productions, including the iconic TV show “Ally McBeal,” among others.
As a session player and touring musician, Michael had the opportunity to share the stage with absolute legends such as Elton John, Tina Turner and Barry White, to name a few.
Today, he is proud to present his most recent release, “New Lives”. This new work feels like a really stunning example of all the passion, proficiency and talent that has defined Michael’s career throughout the years. T
he album is rich and detailed, with a very organic production value that highlights Michael’s seamless connection with every note he plays.
The album also features a stellar cast, including bassist Alec Milstein (Chaka Kahn, Art Porter, Jeff Lorber, Eric Marienthal), as well as Mother’s Finest’s bassist Juan Van Dunk, Johnny Johnson (guitarist for Earth Wind and Fire), Keyboardist/Arranger Harold Frazee (Doro Pesch), TP Morrow (Acoustic Guitar), Darwin Martin (Danny Federici), Danny Jacob (Bette Midler, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin), Daniel De Los Reyes (The Zack Brown Band, Don Henley, Lionel Ritchie, Jennifer Lopez). The album was also engineered by Grammy nominated Recording Engineer Mike Fennel.
