Jonah – Monster:

I’m hailing from Fayetteville, North Carolina, a true southern boy, but with the heart pumping city life directly into my soul. Over the years, I have lived in many different states and countries. However, I ended on the west-coast, and I now reside in Vacaville, California. I started writing at around the age of nine. I can remember visiting my cousin in Philadelphia, Josiah McClarence, and there he introduced me to the world of hip hop when he showed me Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III. Ever since that day, I carried music with me; I use it as a tool and a primary outlet for myself. My inspirations come from the world around me. I always put my focus in the lyrics of my music, and like many of the greats, I feel that words are immortal and they carry the vibe, honesty, and truth within my art.

I started taking music seriously when I was about seventeen. Around that time, I began showing symptoms of schizophrenia, and my only escape was hip-hop, it just seemed to keep my mind in a positive direction; specifically, Nas’ Illmatic. With all the evil thoughts crowding my mind and my interpretations of others around me, I studied his album to the last detail. New York State of Mind and Memory Lane were my favorite tracks on the album, and I can still hear the songs playing on repeat, and to this day I still remember every lyric as if I wrote the songs myself. The imagery he created with his wordplay captured my attention more than anything else that was out at the time. Even now some of my favorite hip hop artists that still inspire me include J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Chance The Rapper, Mac Miller, and Isaiah Rashad. But I still like to keep my preferences in music diverse. I feel that helps me inspire a new breed in my sound. Other artists from other genres I like range from Jimi Hendrix, to Bob Marley to SZA.
