Brandon Flowers Returns: The Quiet Power of His New Single, ‘Plans’

The wait is officially over. After more than a decade away from his solo work, Brandon Flowers is finally back—and he’s trading the stadium-sized anthems we know from The Killers for something much more raw and introspective. His new single, “Plans” feels less like a polished radio hit and more like a conversation over a late-night coffee. It’s the first taste of his upcoming solo album, THRASHER, due out August 21, 2026.

If you’ve followed Flowers for a while, you know his solo stuff usually comes from a different part of his brain than his work with the band. This time, he headed to Nashville’s legendary RCA Studio A, and you can hear the grit and soul of that room in every note.

Why “Plans” Hits Differently

“Plans” isn’t trying to fill a stadium; it’s trying to hold your attention. It captures that universal, slightly ache-inducing realization that life rarely follows the blueprint we drew up in our twenties.

The production is organic and unfussy. You won’t find over-processed synthesizers here. Instead, you get a warm, aching blend of acoustic guitar, a subtle string section, and the kind of harmonica work that reminds you why the classics endure. When Flowers sings, “I didn’t know the cards were stacked,” he sounds tired in a way that feels honest, not performative. It’s a song about the beauty of our plans falling apart and learning how to live in the space that opens up afterward.

As Flowers has mentioned, he spent a lot of time digging back into his father’s old country records while writing this, and that influence is all over “Plans.” It’s an American songbook vibe, but with his own signature stamp on it.

What to Expect from THRASHER

THRASHER feels like it’s going to be the most personal thing he’s ever put his name on. He’s digging into the landscapes of his childhood in Utah, talking about faith, family, and the kind of loss that defines you. With Shawn Everett and Jonathan Rado at the helm, the sound is refined but never feels too clean. It has a pulse.

Seeing it Live

If you want to hear these songs in person, he’s hitting the road starting in September. He’ll be playing a mix of the new tracks, a few gems from The Desired Effect and Flamingo, and, of course, giving some of The Killers’ staples a fresh, stripped-back treatment.

  • North American Tour: Kicks off in Phoenix on September 1.

  • Across the Pond: He’s bringing the tour to the UK and Ireland, including a night at the Royal Albert Hall on October 15.

Where to catch it

“Plans” is streaming everywhere right now. If you want the full experience, look up the “Live From Historic RCA Studio A” video—seeing him perform it live in that room really drives home how much heart went into this recording.
