Westside Cowboy’s New Single “Pin Up Boys” Is the Punchy Indie Anthem You Need Right Now
Manchester’s own Westside Cowboy are officially turning up the heat as we head toward their highly anticipated debut album, It Goes On. Their latest single, “Pin Up Boys” is officially out, and it’s exactly the kind of high-energy indie-rock fix we’ve been waiting for.
If you caught their last release, “Kick Stones (The Boys),” back in May, you already know these guys have a knack for blending Americana grit with a sharp, modern British edge—a sound they call “Britainicana.” “Pin Up Boys” leans into that even harder.
From Bedroom Demos to the Big Stage
There’s a cool, scrappy story behind this track. The band—Reuben Haycocks, James Bradbury, Aoife Anson O’Connell, and Paddy Murphy—actually wrote this one about a year and a half ago, holed up in Paddy’s bedroom.
The origin story is pure DIY: they used an acoustic guitar, a drum machine, and literally used screwdrivers as drumsticks to get the beat right. They’ve been road-testing this one live for a while now, and the studio version captures that same raw, sweaty energy they bring to the stage. It’s loud, it’s propulsive, and it feels like a song that was built to be played at top volume.
A Must-Watch Music Video
The video, helmed by director Jack Shep, is a trip. They cast their mate Will as the lead, running from a “malevolent spotlight” that just won’t let him be. As the song progresses, the narrative starts to fray at the edges, which feels like a perfect visual metaphor for the band’s unpredictable, high-octane sound.
As the band put it themselves: “It is by far the longest serving song on the album and the one that we have played the most live… We hope you get something out of it.”
Why Westside Cowboy Matters
Manchester has always been a hotbed for great music, but Westside Cowboy is doing something a bit different. They aren’t just aping the past; they’re taking classic British songwriting and injecting it with the kind of alternative rock swagger you usually only hear out of the States.
It’s been a massive year for them already, and with their debut album It Goes On dropping on August 21, 2026, through Island Records, it feels like this is just the beginning.
