The Refusers – Free the Captives

The Refusers presenting their single, “Free the Captives”

The Refusers combine hard-hitting music with unique themes and larger-than-life energy. The project managed to combine the massive sound of 90s alternative music, with a truly timeless vibe.

“Free the Captive” has a sound that makes us think of some of the best southern rock music, but the vocals have a completely different character, combining melodic hooks with expressive verses. The choruses are really open and memorable, almost channelling some stadium rock vibes, with vocal harmonies and big guitar parts. The piano parts and keys are also amazing, adding so many subtleties to the mix.

This song is a new milestone for The Refusers, and this new release highlights their commitment to creating catchy songs, while focusing on deeper themes.

Bio

The Refusers perform songs of musical defiance, speaking today’s spirit of rage and simmering revolution against the establishment.

The band of accomplished musicians includes Michael Belkin (guitars/songs/lead vocals); keyboardists Eric Robert (who has performed with Keb’ Mo’), drummer Brendan Hill from Blues Traveler; and bassist/vocalist Steve Newton.

Michael Saulman from “Cashbox” in Canada proclaimed, “The Refusers are one of the best indie rock bands plying their trade today… this new album will further solidify the band’s position as one of the most individualistic rock acts working today.”

Belkin, the band’s founder, songwriter, producer, lead singer and guitarist, muses, “An album called Disobey by a group called The Refusers – you can’t get any more defiant than that, and that is exactly what rock and roll is supposed to be. We embody that classic spirit of defiance that defines rock in any era!”

The Refusers have performed at The Bottle Rock Festival in Napa opening for the Black Keys and Kings of Leon and at Seattle venues such as The Crocodile and Seattle Center.
