Nané – Wolverine

With a quickly-cultivated following through the Austin live circuit, indie-alternative outfit Nané returns on a third single titled “Wolverine” that presents a freshly shadowy side to their sound.

The track features climatic vocals and psychedelic guitars fused into a haunting blend, all complemented by a Moyo Oyelola-directed music video with stunning black-and-white images that track a good person’s progression toward overcoming corruption (with the main characters played by twins Rakeem and Hakeem Wortham).

Let frontman and producer Daniel Sahad explain its conceptual nature further:

“This song highlights the transgressive nature of man. How far “good” people can separate themselves from their own values for selfish reasons; creaking open the door for darkness to enter in small doses until, over time, they are entirely consumed. In this song we follow the story of two good souls who rob a jewelry store for a reason they attempt to justify. On their journey, one of the criminals realizes that the other seems not only to commit the heinous crimes, but to enjoy them, and beckons to let the thrill of his wrongdoings wash over him — making his lungs shiver. Moral of the story: We cannot understand the implications of the unseen. The only way to control darkness is to confront it and cast it away. A small window of opportunity can lead to a lifetime of broken doors.”

“In this video we watch the internal struggle of our hero as he battles with his demons. They destroy his home, tie him up, and celebrate their victory, until our hero finally summons the courage to take ownership of himself and ultimately burn down their playground. Emerging from the ashes of his innocence, reborn as both the goodness and the evil within him, and stronger for it.”

Nané is an indie R&B outfit from Austin, Texas. They broke out into the Austin music scene in Summer 2019 with a series of sold-out shows shrouded in Stay Gold’s glittering curtains. In their 12 month rise, they’ve played for crowds of over 1,200 people, recorded their debut record, and released their anthemic debut single, “Always On My Mind,” which was featured as the Song Of The Day for Minneapolis’ highly esteemed station, 83.9 “The Current.” Called Nané as a term of endearment by his family in the Dominican Republic, lead singer Daniel Sahad determined the band’s name with a communal approach in mind when you call him (and his band) Nané, you’re family too. Nané is honing in on a massive album debut in 2020, produced by Grammy-winning drummer, John Spiece, and engineered by Adrian Quesada of Black Pumas.
