Ela Minus and Nick León Return with a Pulse-Pounding New Single: “espiral”
If you’ve been waiting for that one track to shift the energy of your summer, look no further than the latest from Ela Minus and Nick León. The pair just dropped their new single, “espiral” and it’s a masterclass in how to build tension without losing the human heart at the center of the music.
Released via the Smugglers Way imprint on June 30, “espiral” is our first real taste of their upcoming three-song EP, qué les pasó a mis amigos?, which drops on August 7. After seeing them tease this collaboration for a while now, hearing the finished product feels like the start of a really important chapter for both artists.
A Dark, Beautiful Collision
What makes “espiral” so sticky isn’t just the production; it’s the contrast. Nick León—who has made a name for himself by pushing the boundaries of club music into more dystopian, jagged territory—provides a perfect, cold-yet-gleaming foundation. Then, you have Ela Minus. She brings this incredible, punk-informed vocal delivery that feels both urgent and deeply personal.
The track is built around these sharp, staccato synths and a bassline that refuses to settle down. But when Ela sings, “Lo di todo / por salir” (“I gave it all to get out”), the song stops feeling like just another club track and becomes something you actually feel in your chest. It’s that rare kind of electronic music that can survive the club floor and still sound just as powerful when you’re listening alone in your headphones.
How It All Came Together
This didn’t happen overnight. Ela and Nick first crossed paths in Mexico City back in 2024, and they hit it off instantly. They’ve flirted with working together before—most notably on “Ghost Orchid” and that killer remix of “QQQQ”—but qué les pasó a mis amigos? is the first time they’ve really committed to a project from the ground up.
By all accounts, the studio time in LA was all about instinct. They’ve both talked about having a sort of shorthand when they’re in the room together, which explains why the chemistry on “espiral” sounds so natural, not forced.
Keep an Eye on the Calendar
“espiral” is just the kickoff. The full EP will feature three original tracks and a stacked list of remixes from Loidis, Guedra Guedra, and Brenda.
Here’s what you need to mark down:
-
August 7, 2026: The full qué les pasó a mis amigos? EP hits streaming services.
-
September 3, 2026: They’re bringing this to life on stage at the ICA London for a special Smugglers Way showcase.
-

If you’ve followed Ela Minus since her earlier work or you’ve been tracking Nick León’s rise in the underground, this project feels like a massive step forward. It’s inventive, it’s rhythmic, and most importantly, it’s honest.
