Beck is Headin’ Back to His Acoustic Roots With “In The Night”

Beck has never made the same record twice. Whether he’s diving into lo-fi slacker hip-hop, kaleidoscopic funk, or glossy synth-pop, the only constant with the Californian alternative icon is that he’s going to switch things up.

Now, following a stretch of more electronic-leaning eras, Beck is shifting gears right back to the gorgeous, melancholic acoustic terrain of Sea Change and Morning Phase. Ahead of his 15th studio album, Ride Lonesome (dropping September 18 via Capitol Records), he’s given us a second taste with his new single, “In The Night”.

Inside the Track

Following the album’s lead title track, “In The Night” is a subdued, late-night wander through acoustic guitars and sweeping string arrangements. It’s an atmospheric track built for sleepless hours, leaning heavily into the kind of organic instrumentation long-time fans have been waiting to hear again.
