Beartooth Unleashes “Pure Ecstasy”: Caleb Shomo is Finally Free
Beartooth has officially cemented their spot as one of the most vital, visceral forces in modern rock. Ten years after the gold certification of “Hated” and the platinum success of “In Between,” frontman Caleb Shomo has arrived at a hard-won, pivotal destination.
Caleb is finally… Free.
Marking a massive new partnership with Fearless Records, Beartooth has dropped their devastating new single and title track, “Pure Ecstasy” The song serves as the crushing opening salvo for their highly anticipated sixth studio album, Pure Ecstasy, locked in for release on August 28, 2026.
The Chaos and Clarity of “Pure Ecstasy”
Following the lighter, pop-rock energy of 2023’s The Surface—which yielded massive No. 1 rock radio hits like “Might Love Myself”—”Pure Ecstasy” pulls the pendulum violently back toward the heavy.
While the band’s February single “Free” experimented with a bolder, more polarizing pop aesthetic, the title track masterfully bridges those brighter hooks with absolute sonic destruction. The track was birthed in a studio collaboration with Misha Mansoor (Periphery) before being brought home and expanded alongside producer Jordan Fish (formerly of Bring Me The Horizon).
The result? Slower, darker, and devastatingly heavy riffs that harken back to the raw anxiety of 2021’s Below, but with an entirely new emotional outlook. Take a look at how Caleb Shomo describes the creation of the album opener:
“‘Pure Ecstasy’ was birthed in a studio with Misha Mansoor, ridiculous loudspeakers, and the dumbest heaviest chugs we could chug. Once it was brought home and expanded on with Jordan Fish, there was no question it was the album opener. Play loud and kick ass.”
A New Era of Collaboration
Historically, Beartooth has been Caleb Shomo’s solitary studio sandbox, with Caleb writing and performing every single instrument himself. Pure Ecstasy shatters that tradition.
Embracing true artistic freedom, Shomo opened the doors to a deeply collaborative process. Early songwriting contributions from Skyler Acord (Issues, Twenty One Pilots, Bilmuri) helped shape the foundation. Furthermore, the powerhouse live unit that surrounds Shomo—bassist Oshie Bichar, guitarists Zach Huston and Will Deely, and drummer Connor Denis—all played expanded roles. Notably, this marks the first Beartooth record where Shomo didn’t track the drums himself, handing the sticks over to Connor Denis during intense sessions at the legendary NRG Recording Studios.
