The Last Dinner Party Close the Curtain on ‘From The Pyre’ with Their New Single ‘Knocking at the Sky’
The curtain is finally coming down on the From The Pyre era, and The Last Dinner Party is going out with a serious bang. The breakout indie darlings just dropped their latest single, “Knocking at the Sky” and it serves as the final, haunting chapter of their sophomore project.
If you’ve been keeping an eye on their rise, you know this band doesn’t just put out tracks—they build entire worlds. With “Knocking at the Sky,” they’ve set their sights on the ultimate modern myth: Los Angeles.
A Sinister Fairytale in the City of Angels
The band describes this track as the last tale from The Pyre, and it’s a deep dive into the weird, complex duality of Hollywood.
In talking about the track, the band shared their fascination with the “sinister myth world” of LA:
“Hollywood is the ultimate fairytale; the stakes are at surreal heights, the landscape is unruly and plastic, and it’s populated with a cast of Grimm characters all striving and struggling at the center of their own hero’s journey.”
The song was the last one recorded with producer Animesh Raval at Church Studios in Crouch End. It nails that “unruly and plastic” vibe perfectly, blending the band’s signature dramatic flair with a grittier, darker edge that hits hard.
Cinematic Visuals: From Noir Sirens to John Waters
The release comes with a striking music video directed by Sinclair Bryant. Staying true to the band’s love for high-drama aesthetics, the video is a full-blown love letter to the silver screen, pulling inspiration from:
-
Classic Hollywood Noir: Think moody, mysterious, vintage-siren energy.
-
Slasher Horror: A nod to the iconic “Final Girl” trope and legendary scream queens.
-
The Underground: A wink at the subversive, trash-aesthetic cinema of John Waters.
Where to Listen and What’s Next
“Knocking at the Sky” is the centerpiece for the brand-new Digital Deluxe Edition of From The Pyre, which hit streaming platforms on July 9.
The band isn’t slowing down anytime soon. After a massive festival run—including sets at TRNSMT, Latitude, and a headline slot at Wilderness—they’re heading out on a busy autumn tour supporting sombr across the U.S. Looking toward early 2027, the hype is already real for their support slots on Olivia Rodrigo’s “The Unravelled Tour,” with dates locked in for January and February.
