MPH and Skrillex Just Dropped the UK Garage Collab We’ve Been Waiting For: “Mirage”

If you caught any festival sets over the last few months, you’ve almost certainly heard this ID rattling through the rig. Ever since MPH dropped it during his massive set at EDC Las Vegas back in May, “Mirage” has easily been one of the most talked-about dubplate moments of the year.

Now, the wait is officially over. The new-wave UK Garage standard-bearer has teamed up with electronic music heavyweight Skrillex for “Mirage” out now via DisOrder and Capitol Records.

How an Afternoon in the Studio Created a Banger

You’d expect a collaboration between two heavyweight producers to involve endless email chains and months of fine-tuning. Instead, “Mirage” came together the old-school way: purely on instinct, over the course of a single afternoon.

“Skrillex would do some bits and pass the laptop to me. I’d do some bits and, pretty soon, we’d married our sounds together,” MPH recalls.

That back-and-forth energy bleeds through the entire track. You get Skrillex’s appetite for glitchy, forward-thinking sound design crashing straight into MPH’s unmatched feel for proper, bass-heavy UKG grooves. Neither artist gets lost in the other; it’s a genuinely balanced collision of styles.

Breaking Down the Track

Clocking in with serious momentum, “Mirage” leans on a clever flip of Red Rat’s classic 1996 Jamaican dancehall cut, “Shelly Ann”. Those familiar vocal chops are twisted and tucked into a restless framework of driving drums, sputtering low-end basslines, and massive, euphoric synth stabs. It’s fast, bouncy, and built entirely for peak-time damage.

The drop couldn’t come at a better time. MPH is fresh off a heavy summer circuit that hit Parklife, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands, and he’s gearing up for his biggest headline run to date this fall.

The tour kicks off internationally on September 19 at Pumpehuset in Copenhagen before hitting North America starting October 2 in Portland. Key stops include Denver’s Ogden Theatre on November 14 and a massive tour-closing blowout at New York City’s Knockdown Center on November 28.
