Kaapstaad – Blue Bell Knoll

ArtistRack brings to you ‘Blue Bell Knoll’ by Kaapstaad:

This is a cover of one of my favourite ever Cocteau Twins songs – a song so beautiful and complex it’s taken me 7 years, multiple failed attempts and a few quiet tears to get right. We could never dream of getting anywhere near the majesty of the original so we went all super lateral and attempted a Nordic interpretation.

Tim Spelman, the driving force behind the indie pop outfit Tiny Fighter and the post-rock Fire To The Stars, created Kaapstaad as an outlet for his more introspective, downtempo, ambient solo work. Early press reactions compared Kaapstaad’s music to Neils Frahm, Olafur Arnalds and Ludovico Enaudi.

After accumulating more than 1 million views on YouTube and 800K streams on Spotify with Tiny Fighter, Kaapstaad used the downtime imposed by covid lockdowns to indulge his original passion for film scores and soundtracks. Moving between his two homes of Sweden and Australia, the project took on a life of its own and with support from Swedish collaborators Marcus Wallberg and Tommy Wilen has morphed into a standalone project in its own right.
