Interview with Murph Da Kid

Murph Da Kid is an up & coming Hip Hop Artist out of Hopewell, VA anxious to leave his mark on the game by using his unique style of uptempo beats, catchy hooks and lyricism to bridge the gap between old school and new school hip hop.

Where are you from?

Hopewell, Virginia

How long have you been making music?

Since 99-00

How many songs /albums have you released to date?

Songs too many to count but They Made Me Do It will be my 4th studio project to date which will be released on all streaming platforms on 4-20-2018

Can you tell us about your latest release and the background and inspirations behind it?

‘They Made Me Do It’ hosted by DJ Teddy Beema was inspired by all the love my fans give me all the hate the critics give I just went all the way in my bag and gave the world a classic to keep those who love me happy and to let the haters know to get used to me cause i ain’t going nowhere

How have you ended up in the music industry?

My brother heard Back That Thang Up by Juvenile and after Lil Wayne made that simple verse like a negro spiritual lol he just said let’s start rapping no diss to Tunechi though he’s made favorite living rapper #LEGEND

What do you think of the music industry in 2018?

The music industry is in a weird spot I won’t say it’s bad but it’s definitely time for an artist like me to step in and provide the industry what it needs a bridge between new and old school. Old school hip hop fans love wordplay and lyricism and millennial love beats and catchy hooks so there’s definitely a disconnect but time will definitely prove REAL hip hop will NEVER DIE!

Who do you think the most influential artist?

Most influential to me would be Tupac greatest of all time but as I said before Lil Wayne been my favorite for a decade or more I like Chance The Rapper, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar I just like people who instead of riding the wave they create their own and I can’t forget Nelly I can still ride to Country Grammar like it’s new

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?

I try to collaborate as much as possible but a lot of artists don’t reach out for features but on this project I worked with my brother Zigg Money of course. Mista Kelly, Ed Wavy and Jayi Delvalle on the project and I got some collabs coming soon with various artists I won’t let the cat out the bag just yet but know it’s going to be a good year. If anybody reading this wants to work contact me on social media @murphdakid_sfs or email me stayfreshsocietyva@gmail.com

How do you think you differ from other artists?

I say what I want to get off my chest even if it’s not what they want to hear. I’m not the fitting in type I’m a standout and my lyricism and wordplay is next level not to sound cocky but put a beat on and it’s a wrap plus I work quicker harder and longer than most. I’ll write record mix and master a song in 1 sitting even if that means staying up until 5am don’t believe me asking DJ Teddy Beema

Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?

Tupac, Chance The Rapper, Lil Wayne, Derez Deshon and the late great Roger Troutman

What was the first album you bought?

First album I personally bought was Rule 3:36 I had others before but that was the first one I had to pay for

What’s your favourite song at the moment?

Favorite Song right now is Don’t Judge Me and Hardaway by Derez Deshon

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your draw?

That’s a tough one I would probably have to go with Carter 2 or 3 but it’s a lot I wouldn’t be able to part ways with to be honest

What is your favourite saying?

When you’re going thru hell just keep going (Winston Churchill) it just means no matter how hard things get you can’t give up and it won’t last forever

What other hobbies or interests do you have?

Sports I’m a basketball and football junkie

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?

10 tats and got both ears pierced

Tell us more about your upcoming project or this new project?

They Made Me Do It hosted by DJ Teddy Beema is the first project I released since my last project The ReBirth where I pretty much just let out everything I was feeling. So They Made Me Do It is just me getting back to being the artist I am lots of uptempo feel good songs and bars for days

What’s in the pipeline after this project?

I can’t let everything out just yet because nothing has been finalized but you will see a collaboration project or 2 or 3 lol if not a project definitely will get a couple of tracks with Murph and Glo possibly an SFS project with Scott Raheem and K. Ale’ maybe even a Murph & Zigga tape and a few collaborations with various artist
