Interview with 2NOI2Y

the-1

2NOI2Y are an English alternative Hip-hop duo from Manchester.

It is their passion for music and similar talents, beat boxing, rapping, dancing and music production that brought the straight edge rapper (JTP) and Noisyboy to form the act 2NOI2Y when they met in college. Ever being told they are too loud and very big contrasting personalities, It was their different styles and persona that created their unique chemistry and distinctive sound on and off stage.

What are your names?  Our names are JTP and Noisyboy, We’re…2NOI2Y cause there’s 2 of us and we loud as hell! Can’t help it just noisy by nature. That could have made for 1 hell of a name couldn’t it? “Noisy by nature”. It’s got a ring to it, Besides the fact people would be calling us Nature boys “Whooo”. We didn’t know if that would be a good or bad thing.

Where are you from?   We’re from Manchester, thats the other city in the UK that is not London or Birmingham, jokes.

How long have you been making music?   As a duo..well since college, The first thing that I said to Noisyboy was “Yo can you beat-box?” and we had a little back to back freestyle and beat-box session and that was that. So I suppose that was the first “music” we ever made.

How many songs /albums have you released to date?   Released?!? Well, we recently released a promo track called Treadmillin, that was just to say ‘Look we are here and You are here too, lets all stop treadmillin’ goin nowhere and let’s start moving forward.’ But this track “Thinkin Bout it” is our first itunes single.

Can you tell us about your upcoming release and the background and inspirations behind it?   Funny enough, the idea for this song came when we was queing up to get into this dope pancake cafe and I (JTP) asked Noisyboy “Yo At a restaurant, If you are waiting for the waiter, ain’t you the waiter?” And ofcourse Noisyboy’s response which is his response to near enough everything he aint got an answer too inspired the hook. We then just started vibing with the idea and that was that. By the way this is Manchester “It’s grim up north” out here in England we had to wait around for like 40 minutes outsidee in the freezing cold it was super fresh. Well worth it though, got a hook and some dope food out off it can’t complain really can you JT?

How have you ended up in the music industry?   JT: We all know there is no such thing as a coincidence so it must’ve been a metaphysical or subconscious ambition and detirmination, compounded by a passion to make good music. Noisyboy: Shutup Jay!

Where is your favorite place to perform?  Had to be the Manchester 02 Apollo, it was crazy. the atmosphere was dope and we played with a real band instead of just backing music. That was probably one off the best stages we have performed.

What is your favorite city to perform?  Scotland Glasgow is on another level, who new the Scotts love hip hop, we sure as hell didn’t but that’s probably been the best crowd we have had the pleasure to perform in-front of

Have you won any awards?  Yeah we have won the best “Live and Unsigned UK urban Act” before but we are aiming for more and getting ourselves to the UMA’s (Unsigned Music Awards)

What do you think of the music industry in 2015?   Everthing is all fuzed together now genres are getting hard to differentiate, whether thats a good thing or bad thing depends on the artist, but we embrace change. We just like making good and listening to good music.

Who do you think the most influential artist?   We don’t know, honestly have no idea. I listen to something I like it I search for it and add it to my itunes Jt does the same.

Who have you collaborated with so far in your career?   Well there’s a remix of treadmilin’ we did with MNIB and a track we worked on with young Nyah, an amazing female vocalist we have worked with on “Make a Toast” and “when your Gone”. It’d be dope to do more collabs we just been super pre occupied with other projects but any artists who like our sound and what we do then give us a shout, we are open minded, perfectionists with a vision and a dope work ethic so…

Dead or alive, who would be your dream collaboration?   Chronixx and Ab soul, Lupe Fiasco would be cool to work with too.

What was the first album you bought?   eeeerrrm…Thinking bout it?

What’s your favorite song at the moment? errrmmmm…Thinkin’ Bout It.

Who is the most influential artist now, and 10 years ago? Right now Kendrick is making a difference. There was Macklemore, Kanye, Fiddy, Drake, Krept andd Konan on the Uk scene, Tinie Tempah, Dizee Rascal Rascal. Everyone is influencing everyone.

If you had to sell your music collection tomorrow, what album would you leave in your draw?   Noisyboy: None, cause I don’t have any albums I keep in my draw. Do you JT? JT: I got that flash drive in the car with our Ep on it? So i guess that would be it for me. Noisyboy: I don’t buy albums so the naswer to that is NOPE!

How do you think you differ from other artists?   Noisyboy: Look I like to smoke and drink it’s my thing “this is my life homie you decide yours”, but that boy don’t drink and don’t smoke he is straight Edge, he promotes a good clean life and expresses it in his lyrics, we are like the polar opposite. JT: Guess that’s what makes us different, our music and content is off a wider spectrum. We can have a good time, don’t take ourselves too seriously but also keep it on a level and talk consciously.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?  We are the best in the world at what we do, and that is being 2NOI2Y, we get on stage we entertain, we dance, we vibe, we engage. It’s all about engaging with the fans and crowd. There are times we have had to step on stage in front of guys who you would never like never evvvveeerr play a hip-hop CD to and after we have finished our set they have come to us and said, “Hey…we don’t listen to hiphop but you guys were entertaining” And that’s what it’s all about you know? Making a connection.

Are you an artist or entertainer? We are entertaining artists.

What is your favorite saying?   JT: I dunno bout me but I know B’s favourite saying is Go F**k yourself. Honestly the boy says it pretty much everytime he disagrees on something? Noisyboy: No I don’t make, Not unless I know you… Go f***k yourself.

What other hobbies or interests do you have?   Chilling with the fam, video gaming, hitting the gym, football, making designs, getting inked up, really into the whoole Marveel movies and sh*t, that kind of stuff.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?  Yeah, they are art, they tell a story they are not just for show, they mean alot.

Tell us more about your upcoming project or this new project?   This project was fun to make you know, it’s just a song you can vibe to and just chill and listen to, hope people don’t take it too serious like we did and just enjoy it …it’s our first single and available to buy on itunes:- https://itunes.apple.com/ album/id982019437 now! What’s in the pipeline after this project?   A collaboration with Nyah for our song “Make a Toast” you can hear it on our website 2noi2y.com. We have a video to shoot with her and some friendds we have never done a party video so it’s gonna be dope just the experience alone is gonna be worth recording.

Thank you for your time and may you carry on making dope, fresh music.

Hey Thank you for supporting us. It’s dope to have a platform like this that allows up and coming or emerging artist a chance to be heard and do it independently. Also to the people who share the links and give their opinions and comments. It all helps and best believe it’s much appreciated. Thank guys. One. Peace.
