A.Def – OP8 of the Masses

Check out the Official Music Video for ‘OP8 of the Masses’ by A.Def

Headquartered in the deserts of New Mexico, A.DEF – short for “attention deficit” – is the collaboration of hip hop artists Nick FuriouStylz and X24, who bring a wry sensibility to personal, social, societal, and political commentary. Nick FuriouStylz and X24 have never been ones to conform, even to their own preferred musical genre, incorporating so many interests and influences that they prefer not to have a label. Both artists have longstanding solo careers and have produced numerous regional projects. While still working as solo artists, the pair, friends for years, have created A.DEF.

A.DEF’s first single/music video is the title track from their forthcoming album, OP8 of the Masses. The song and video feature actor and singer Ava Del Cielo. was inspired by the famous Karl Marx quote, “Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.” In the A.DEF song, though, the opiate is the lack of contact between individuals- the loss of love. The video focuses on two men connected to a false world that each sees through masks. They momentarily awaken and attempt to escape, to connect with others, but Del Cielo’s temptress lures them back to the world in which each is alone, encased in his own paramnesia again. These are not people voluntarily ingesting an opiate; their addition is enforced by the isolation and solitude of a mechanized world.
